SCULPTRA

Sculptra is an injectable cosmetic filler that can be used to restore facial volume loss due to aging or illness. It contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible synthetic substance that stimulates collagen production. It can be used to treat deep lines, creases, and folds to give a more youthful appearance.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How Does Sculptra Work?

Sculptra is injected into the skin to diminish facial wrinkles. It contains PLLA, which acts as a collagen stimulator, helping to gradually restore fullness to facial wrinkles and folds. This results in a softer, more youthful appearance.

When Will I Start Seeing Results?

Sculptra works by stimulating your body’s natural function to create more collagen. This makes it difficult to give a precise estimate of how long it will take to see results, but most patients see results within a few weeks. Although the area may look plumper immediately after the procedure, once the swelling subsides and the water that was injected with the poly-L-lactic acid is absorbed, your appearance will return to how it was before the injections. As more collagen is produced, visible results will gradually start to appear.

How Long Do the Results Last?

The results of this injectable service can last for up to two years after the initial course of injections. This is a considerable difference compared to most hyaluronic fillers that only last a few months. It is recommended that you receive repeat treatments as you approach the two year mark to maintain results and avoid returning to your original appearance.

Are You a Good Candidate for Sculptra?

This treatment is recommended for adults that are in good health and wish to gradually add volume to certain areas of their face. It will reduce signs of aging such as wrinkles and fine lines, and is also meant to fill hollow areas of the face that are present due to fat loss. Sculptra is ideal if you are looking for gradual, subtle and natural results.

What Are the Side Effects of Sculptra?

The side effects of this injectable service are similar to other dermal injections. The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, tenderness, injection site pain, itching, bleeding and lumps.

What to Expect After the Injections?

After the Sculptra injections you may return to your normal daily activities. You will need to ice the area after treatment and massage the treated area multiple times a day for a few days after the injections. You can wear makeup following the treatment if desired. You should avoid facials for two weeks following the procedure. A few days following the injections your appearance will return to how it was prior to treatment. This is normal as it takes a few weeks for visible results to appear. You may have some bruising, tenderness or swelling in the treated areas.

Is Sculptra Safe?

Sculptra is classified as a collagen stimulator that provides long-lasting, natural-looking results that can last up to two years. It is safe and effective but is not recommended for people with allergies to any of its ingredients or for those with medical conditions that cause irregular scarring.

Who Should NOT Get Sculptra?

Sculptra should not be used by people who are allergic to any ingredient of the product or have a history of keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring. Safety has not been established in patients who are pregnant, lactating, breastfeeding, or under 18 years of age.
