Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that stimulates the skin to regenerate and repair itself naturally and safely, creating smoother, brighter, healthier, younger-looking skin. This medical procedure involves using tiny, sterile needles to puncture the skin, causing physical trauma. This trauma then stimulates the deeper layer of the skin, causing it to rebuild.

Microneedling can help address many skin-related complaints, including:

  • Wrinkles
  • Scarring
  • Acne
  • Hair loss
  • Skin pigmentation issues
  • Stretch marks
  • Rosacea
  • Loose skin, such as after weight loss or liposuction
  • Skin rejuvenation

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What Are the Benefits of Microneedling?

This procedure is a safe and effective way to rejuvenate skin and treat scars and wrinkles. You can also expect a reduction in the appearance of large pores, fine lines, scars and stretch marks.

When Will I Start Seeing Results?

As soon as the deepest layers of your skin are penetrated by the needles, “micro-wounds” are created. This immediately triggers your body's wound healing processes to heal these micro-wounds. However, the most dramatic results will not be visible until 4-6 weeks after treatment.

How Long Do the Results Last?

You can repeat this treatment as often as you want without building up scar tissue. However, when scars and stretch marks are treated the results generally are permanent and long lasting.

When Should I Get This Treatment?

This treatment can be safely repeated every 4-6 weeks until you achieve the desired results. For collagen induction we recommend starting with 3 treatments, with a minimum separation time of 4 to 6 weeks between treatments. For scar reduction an average of 3 to 6 treatments are recommended.

How Long Does Microneedling Take?

The procedure usually takes 20-30 minutes to perform.

Does Microneedling Hurt?

During a treatment session, the outermost layer of the skin is pricked with microneedles to promote collagen formation and skin regrowth. The procedure is not overly painful, and we use a topical numbing cream to minimize discomfort. The most common side effects are skin redness and irritation.

What Is the Downtime After Treatment?

There is no real downtime with this procedure. You can resume most normal activities immediately. The skin will look red at first and there may be some swelling, but this typically subsides after 1-2 days. You may also experience skin dryness and flakiness. We advise that you don’t wear makeup for the first 24 hours after treatment. We typically recommend scheduling treatment at least two weeks prior to a special event to allow adequate time for recovery.

Is Microneedling Safe?

This treatment is considered to be very safe. It is also well tolerated by most skin types, including darker skin, and is typically less expensive than other similar procedures, such as laser treatments.

What Are the Common Side Effects of Microneedling?

The most common side effect is minor skin irritation immediately following the procedure. You may also see redness and flaking for a few days.

Who Should NOT Have This Treatment Done?

Microneedling is considered to be safe for most people who are in overall good health. This procedure is NOT safe for people who use certain acne medications or for women who are pregnant. Additionally, do not have this procedure done within two weeks of injection with dermal filler or volumizers to avoid a potential unwanted inflammatory response.
