When you get laser hair removal treatments you eliminate the need for endless amounts of shaving, shaving cream, and waxing. Laser Hair Removal helps you avoid ingrown hairs. You do not have to grow hair between treatments. The laser precisely targets and removes hair, while leaving the skin undamaged.
The lasers emit a light at a specific wavelength that will be absorbed by the pigment of the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding skin. The light is converted into heat energy, which then disables the hair follicle so that it will not produce more hair.
Typically it will take six to eight treatments to achieve a full clear area, but there are certain people who only need four treatments.
Laser hair removal will permanently reduce hair growth, but it doesn’t permanently remove it in all cases. Any hair the laser can’t destroy can be removed through electrolysis.
A laser hair removal session will normally take 60 minutes or less, depending on the size of the area being treated. 6 to 8 (up to 10 on darker skin types) successive treatments will be required for optimal results. Each session should be spaced about 4 to 8 weeks apart, depending on the area of the body being treated.
Laser hair removal is no more painful than waxing. If you have sensitive skin, there are numbing creams that can be used to make the experience more comfortable.
For the day or two after the treatment, your skin will look and feel sunburned. Moisturizers and cool compresses can help. Over the next month, the treated hair will fall out. Make sure to wear sunscreen for the following month to prevent temporary color changes in the skin.
You can have laser hair removal treatment done over your lunch break because there is no recovery time. The lasers do not remove the skin, so there are very low risks.
The most common side effects of laser hair removal include Skin irritation. Temporary discomfort, redness, and swelling are possible after laser hair removal. You may notice some skin pigment changes. These changes might be temporary or permanent. Skin lightening primarily affects those who don't avoid sun exposure before or after treatment and those who have darker skin.
Laser treatments are, in general, not recommended for patients with skin disease or active infection. Some of the medications you take for your skin conditions, such as isotretinoin, could make you photosensitive. If your skin pigments easily, you might be a good candidate for laser hair removal.
